Cagliari is the biggest town of the island and has been its capital since Roman times. For many travelers it is their arrival point in Sardinia - there are ferry services to
Naples,
Sicily and other towns.
The old city centre is protected by a set of Pisan fortifications and it can be explored on foot easily. The most important sights are the Bastione San Remy on the Piazza Costituzione a great bastion whihc gives you access to the old city and from where you have a great view over the harbour, the Cathedral on Piazza Palazzo dating from the 13-th century as well as a a few old towers such as the Torre San Pancrazio and the Torre dell'Elefante which form part of the defensive structures of the city.
Outside of the old city centre the main sight is the Dan Saturnino church the oldest Christian church on the ilsand dating all the way from the 5-th century. It's on the Via Dante.
