Boulder is as beautiful as it is unique. Visitors here are treated to both a sensory and cultural treat. We have 4 very distinct seasons, with a moderate to cold winter. The Boulderites motto is if you don't like the weather, wait 5 minutes and it'll change. The moral: Always carry a jacket.
Snug against the dramatic Flatirons of the Rocky Mountains, the view is breathtaking from most anywhere in town. Boulder is one of the few cities to be literally up against the mountains, which helps create the environment. The founding fathers also sought to preserve this beauty by surrounding the city with parks and open space, so the Denver metroplex will never encroach as it has on neighboring towns.
Downtown Boulder is a mecca for arts and crafts and other cultural activities. Most noticible, and unique, is the Pearl Street Mall, which is a must for any visitor at any time of year. Pearl Street is a protected outdoor walking mall lined with oddball shops, and even odder people. You're almost always find to find a juggler, unicycle rider or magician on the Mall, while being treated to various musical accompanyments.
A 30 minute drive west up any of the well groomed canyon roads and you'll be treated to some of the most incredible Rocky Mountain views anywhere, and world class resorts like the Eudora Ski Area near Estes Park.
Words of warning to the traveller: Boulder is home to the University of Colorado (widely considered a Public Ivy League school) with a student population of 25,000 students. Make hotel and entertainment reservations well ahead of time or you might not be able to stay in town. During home Big 12 football games, or other times when parents or alumnii are in town, Boulder bulges over and can barely handle the population due to the strict anti-growth laws. Also, don't expect to stay here inexpensively. The cost-of-living is very high in Boulder. Hotels and B&B's charge premium rates, and eating out can get very expensive if you don't visit the same places the students go rather than the tourist targets. A Best Bet is to eat at one of the many bars and restaurants on The Hill near campus.
