Buena Vista is located in Central Colorado some 200 km west of Denver. Originally the little mountain town was a brawling, burgeoning, dusty mining center with freight wagons pouring through enroute to the silver boom town of Leadville and the fabulous gold fields of St. Elmo. The people of Buena Vista were a wild bunch, living mostly in hastily constructed tents and shanties. The little town had 68 bars and pubs before the first church building was erected in 1879. This church now houses the Visitors Centre. Today Buena Vista is a picturesque town and good starting point for many outdoor activities. In town itslef you should take a morning to walk around to see the hsitoric buildings and pop in the Bunea Vista Heritage museums.
Located in the heart of the Collegiate Peaks mountain range where some of Colorado's highest 14,000 foot peaks can be found. Bordered by Cottonwood Creek and surrounded by San Isabel National Forest, nature's beauty abounds everywhere in the region. The area is absolutely faboulous for rafting as well as hiking. Buena Vista has excellent Spa's. Its historical hot springs were considered sacred and were a spiritual gathering place for the Ute Indians. For centuries the Utes came here for the hot springs natural medicinal and therapeutic values. Today they're waiting to be discovered by you.
