My favourite state - love it because it encorporates some of the most beautiful beaches, beautiful bushland and bushwalking opportunities, the gorgeous Sydney harbour scene, and the Blue Mountains area is colder and the air is fresher there.
Sydney's Opera House is not the only reason why one should visit this marvellous city. The Sydney harbour area with the famous Harbour Bridge, the 'Rocks' area (the place where the first settlement took place) and Chinatown are only a few of the other places worth a visit. To the east, some of the fines beaches of NSW can be found. Manly, Bondi, Tamarama and Bronte are excellent beaches, not only for sunbathing but also for surfing. And just when you think you've already seen the best when it comes down to waves, set off for Byron Bay at the nothern tip of NSW, also better known as 'the surfing Mecca'.
The Blue Mountains and the Snowy Mountains, both part of the Great Dividing Range, are located in NSW. The Blue Mountains National Park is an excellent spot to do some bushwalking, whether for a short trip or for a several days' walk, and this is only one of the many NSW National Parks. The Snowy Mountains offer the perfect places for skiing and when the snow melts again, there is always the possibility of a wild water rafting trip, not to mention bushwalking and mountain treking into areas offering some of the most unique and beautiful plants and wildlife in Australia.
Keep going further west about 3 1/2 hours from Sydney, until you come to Mudgee, famous for its fine wine. Over 45 wineries, beautiful scenery, art galleries, potteries, fun markets, great restaurants. Wonderful B&Bs with very friendly hosts, farm animals, birds. Great place to spend a long weekend sipping wine and relaxing.
We stayed recently at Ardrossan B&B just out side Mudgee on the road to Gulgong. A lovely place with a swimming pool and spa.Devinely comfortable beds and scrumptious breakfasts. The flower gardens are beautiful, the lake with the ducks and geese and of course 3 cute little dogs to cuddle. Highly recommend Ardrossan. My husband loved their library with lots of books. They can take up to 4 couples or just one couple. We had the B&B to ourselves the weekend we stayed but plan on returning in December with 4 couples.
October 2006 We saw your recommendation for Ardrossan B&B Mudgee and stayed last weekend. The gardens were lovely, stunning roses and poppies. We spent hours in the swimming pool and spa and did a lot of walking to make up for the berry pancake and eggs benedict breakfasts. Very yummy. Susan and Ed are very warm and welcoming hosts. We loved the doggies too but have to wonder about the way those indian runner ducks treated poor Mandrake the muscovy drake. We hope Ardrossan can find some girlfriends for them soon!! We'll be back next year to Ardrossan.
