South Carolina is one of the prettiest states in the U.S. Located on the East Coast between North Carolina and Georgia, The Palmetto State offers many seaside resorts on the Atlantic that combine sandy beaches with an historical center. You will get a good impression of what life in the early years of the Unites States was like, walking the cobbled streets of Charleston visiting an 18th century mansion, or taking a ferry ride to Ft. Sumter, where the civil war began. Another coastal city, Myrtle Beach is a part of the Grand Strand and is a haven for golfers, swimmers and other recreational enthusiasts. The Grand Strand is a perfect family or romantic vacation spot along the sun-soaked coast.

Upstate South Carolina offers many good outdoor possibilities. The Blue Ridge Mountains are a favorite for hikers, campers, outdoor sportsman and fisherman alike. But there is also history here. Greenville, situated north of the Mountains, was once the textile center of the world. It now has over 60 city parks and areas dedicated to preserving their heritage.

In the heart of South Carolina the capital city of Columbia is a booming town, with reminders of the cival war throughout the town. The Capitol building is must see for history buffs; each bronze star on the building indicates where a cannon ball struck the building, and the statue of George Washington out front lost the bottom of his cane to a cannon ball too!
