Madurai is a must for the traveller to Tamil Nadu. The city has everything to offer within walkable distance, ranging from museums, shops, markets and cinemas to sights of ordinary life the way it used to be (and still is for many inhabitants of Madurai). In the middle of all the hustle and bustle of city life, the Sree Meenakshi Temple is an oasis of peace and tranquillity. The first sight of the temple will be one of the nine gopurams, the huge intensely ornamented gates to the complex. On the compound, youll see pilgrims from all over the country, temples, a pond and an interesting museum.
