Panama City, a vibrant metropolis at the mouth of the Pacific entrance of the Panama Canal. As the first settlement of the Spanish at the Pacific Ocean, it has a 500+ year history. Full of contrast, multi-cultural, surrounded by jungle, it's a must-visit.

While the city is a destination in itself, you can also visit the Embera Indians villages in the nearby Chagres National park. Or the Summit Gardens. Or take the train accross the Isthmus.

And for those interested in history, cross the Istmus - it just takes an hour - to visit the ruins of Fort San Lorenzo, a former defense site built by the Spanish Settlers in the year 1582, at the mouth of the Chagres River and Portobelo, their main trading port, sacked by famous pirates.

The exiting options are plentiful and Panama's bed & breakfasts provide the ideal base from where to explore this exciting country.
