Victorian family home in riverport Jefferson's historic district. Chock full of local and family history. Easy walk to city center and all attractions. Resident cat.Located within walking distance of shops and attractions WISE MANOR is one of the oldest BED & BREAKFAST homes in Jefferson. Built in 1851 on the ferry road into pre-Civil War Jefferson, the home has been in the same family since 1908. Jacob & Ernestine Sterne, Jefferson postmasters, were distinguished residents. General Buell was a guest here during Reconstruction. A hearty breakfast is served on the owner's grandmother's Bavarian wedding china from 1900. Family portraits from 1790 adorn the dining room and parlor walls.|Three guest rooms are furnished with antiques that arrived in Jefferson via riverboats. The Ramsay Suite has a queen Mallard bed and rare Victorian "youth" bed. Ballauf's Room's queen bed was converted from a pioneer rope and peg bed. Margaret's Room has a complete cherrywood bedrrom set from 1927. Each room has a private bath, hair dryer, bedside chocolates, coffee service, and cable TV. The house has central air and heat.|KATHERINE RAMSAY WISE, Jefferson's town historian lived in this Houston Street home from 1927 until her death in 2000, at the age of 85. Mrs. Wise worked at restoring the Victorian cottage throughout her lifetime. She opened Wise Manor to overnight guests in the 1970s when Jefferson needed accommodations for visitors to its annual Historic Pilgrimage. Your innkeeper is Katherine's daughter, Susan Wise.
